I was wondering from what rule system(s) are we pulling from for the weapon construction rules. due to my weapons based on a heavier combat larp, i need to make some new swords, and axes. However i think my spears would be fine, as would be my flail, I'll bring them to the next practice along with my medium shields and punch bucklers, also my great sword. however I'd like to get an idea of where the weapon construction rules are coming from.
My spears are 1/2 or 3/4" pvc wrapped in funoodle, the actual 'blade' is a halved koosh football with the tip cut off, between the koosh foam is a 1" plate of closed cell foam, the shaft is built up at the end to properly secure the head from otherwise wobbling.
the great sword uses a composite core made of 1/2" pvc with an inner core of pine, the pine is secured internally by glue (it is back from either end by about 2" for added safety, basicly making a 1/2" pvc pipe able to minimize the whipage to the blade while retaining absurdly light core, otherthan that it follows, with a open cell covered by close cell foam tip, for about 4" then the main body is composed of close cell foam. about an 1.5" from core on stricking sides and .5" on flats.
the flail is composed of a 16" hilt that is padded heavily to ensure safety against mandle blows. the chain is composed of 16" of length sunk into both the head and the shaft so that about 12" are displayed, these 12" are then covered in 2" sections of foam 'links' with no more than 1.5" between one link and the next. all weapons have pommels.
on the shields
the round shield is towards the enemy covered in 3" of foam 2" being open cell and 1" being closed, this follows on the outside edge, the side towards the wielder is faced in .5" closed cell foam, securing it two the arm by ducttape covered rope.
the other one is 3" of open cell foam covering the whole facing, then on the edge it is retained by a .5" closed cell foam ring on the lower part, the uper is approx 4-5" of open ell foam from core, the back is mainly wood, with .5" or closed cell foam around the outiside. to secure it to the arm there is a leather arm loop with a shallow metal handle for control (this is the lighter of the two shilds. in the second one all screws were cut off if punching through the core into open air so as not to place a danger the opponent.
the punch bucklers are all foam paddle boards (swimming pool). they have a verticle pvc pipe inside for gripping
